Achieve Every Goal in Your Soap & Skincare Business with This Simple S - The Soap Coach
Achieve Every Goal in Your Soap & Skincare Business with This Simple Strategy

As small business owners in the soap and skincare industry, it’s all too easy to fixate on what we haven't achieved, rather than celebrating how far we've actually come. If we can flip that perspective, we start seeing how far we really have come. It’s time to reframe how we look at our goals to build positivity, momentum, and genuine growth in our businesses.

The secret to this is Focusing on action-based goals rather than outcome-based ones. Read on and I will explain.

This blog is a written version of my YouTube video of the same name. If you prefer to watch rather than read you can do so here.

Why Action Based Goals Are Game-Changers

Outcome based goals like revenue targets or leaving a day job are great for envisioning where you want to be. But they’re not always in your control. Market trends, economic shifts, or even rainy days can impact sales, which is frustrating when you’re giving it your all.

Action based goals, on the other hand, are things you can absolutely control. They are small, concrete steps that you can take consistently, whether it’s sending weekly emails, posting to social media regularly, or developing new product lines. Each action you take moves you toward your long term vision, and the best part? You’re always winning because you’re always achieving.

How Action Based Goals Boost Your Business Mindset

Focusing on achievable goals not only keeps you motivated but also builds resilience. In my experience working with solo business owners, having a list of actions you’re ticking off brings immediate confidence, prevents burnout, and keeps you moving forward. When you’re achieving something every week or month, you feel like you’re in control, which is a huge mindset shift for any business owner.

An action based approach also lets you create consistent habits that contribute to growth over time. Consistency is key in business, this may be sending a weekly email or posting to social media or something else but these actions become easier the more you do them. For instance, I send out an email to my list every Monday without fail. It’s a habit now, so ingrained that it feels harder not to do it!

The Flexibility of Action Based Goals

Unlike revenue based goals that will leave you feeling you have failed if you don't meet them, action based goals are adaptable. They evolve with your business, and can be changed without any negativity. For example, if you’re building an email list, you might start by sending one email a month. As your business grows, you could increase that to bi-weekly emails without it feeling like a setback, it's simply adapting to what your business needs.

Examples of Action Based Goals for Soap & Skincare Business Owners

If you're wondering where to start, here are some examples of achievable, action-focused goals that will steadily drive your business forward, these are very generic and what you choose will depend upon your longer term vision.

  • Social Media Posts Commit to posting three times a week on Instagram to engage your followers and attract new customers.
  • Email Newsletters Send a monthly newsletter to stay top of mind with your subscribers
  • Events and Networking Aim to attend two local events per quarter, making sure to collect emails from interested customers.
  • Wholesale Outreach Reach out to one new wholesaler every month who aligns with your brand and values.

Each of these goals builds a foundation, creating what’s often referred to as the Compound Effect, small actions that add up over time.

Examples of Real Life Action Based Goals for Growing Your Soap & Skincare Business

Let’s say your long term vision is to increase your email list to 1,000 subscribers. Here’s how you can break that down into action based steps.

  1. Add a Pop-Up on Your Website offering a discount for new subscribers.
  2. Post Weekly on Social Media to remind followers about your email list and special offer.
  3. Ask Every In Person Customer at events if they’d like to join your list.

Or perhaps your goal is to match your day job income with your business. Start by calculating exactly what that looks like for you. How much you need to turnover annually and how you may achiever that, then, set actions that are within your reach. For me that would look something like this.

  • Create a Wholesale Catalogue to send to potential stockists.
  • Approach Three New Businesses Weekly who might be interested in carrying my products.
  • Research and Engage with Potential Business Partners on social media to build valuable connections. 15 minutes per day.

Each of these actions puts you in the driver’s seat of your business growth, and none of them rely solely on outside factors.

Tracking Your Progress

Tracking your achievements can add a layer of motivation and help you visualise the impact of your consistent efforts. If you’re aiming to grow your email list, keep a simple log each month to record subscriber numbers. This doesn’t need to be complicated, it could just be a simple diary entry.

A Mindset of Consistency and Success

Reframing how you think about your goals isn’t about ignoring revenue, it’s more about focusing on the actions that lead to it. And when you do that, you’re creating a mindset of consistency and success. There’s a quote by Robert Collier, a motivational author,it is around 100 years old but is so true “Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.”

For every soap batch you make, email you send, or wholesale connection you nurture, you’re building toward that long term vision. So, if you’re ready to make a consistent change, let’s hear about it! Drop me a comment if you’re setting a new action based goal this month.
