There is no such thing as a silly question!

The Soap Coach

Can I halve, double or even triple a soap recipe?

Maybe it is just me that asked this question when I was starting out? I had no idea if changing the batch size would have any impact on the finished product!

Looking back now it seems like a daft question to ask - surely the answer is obvious? But if I asked it I am pretty sure lots of you will be asking it too. It also helps me explain that when I say there is no such thing as a silly question I mean it as I have been there!

So in a nut shell - yes you can. There, I said it. The answer you probably all knew but I didn't when I first started out. It doesn't matter what your recipe is, whether you use hot or cold process you can just upsize or downsize it accordingly  - or even just increase everything by 10%.

BUT please make sure you are confident with your maths. I am pretty good but for some reason because I know the dire consequences of getting it wrong I doubt myself every time and end up checking and double checking on the calculator. If in doubt you can still run it through a lye calculator such as soap calc. If you have not used it before then check out my demo video here.

Hi Sheryl, oh that is amazing. I am so pleased you have found it helpful :)

Hi, I happened across your site on a FB soap making group page. I just want to say thank you for so much down to earth information. I have been making soap on and off for several years. Since retiring I am full on with my hobbies. My husband has ceased seeing a skin specialist, and taking medication since using my soap. I love experimenting. It was so inspiring to read your blog. Cheers Sheryl.
